Welcome to Our Schools
As small rural schools who cater for children aged from 4 – 11 and as a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, our shared vision is to provide an outstanding education that gives all pupils the opportunity to develop their potential within a happy, caring and safe environment grounded upon the values and vision of the Christian faith. Although over 150 years old (St Dominic School) & 120 years old (St. Mellion School) we provide modern facilities having had large extensions and improvements across the past fifteen years.
Since January 2011, St Mellion & St Dominic Schools have been federated. Located only two miles apart, they share staff and many learning opportunities. In September 2015, the Federation began a partnership working with Sir Robert Geffery’s School who provide an Executive Head Teacher – Mrs Julie Curtis - for two afternoons per week. In 2019, Mrs Ogalo joined the senior leadership team & became a teaching Head of School for St Mellion, she is currently also acting Head of School at St Dominic. Mrs Curtis remains our Executive Head Teacher.
Both schools have much in common and enjoy working together on many levels; through joint curriculum projects where pupils work together, by combining staff for training events and coming together for learning, clubs and community events across the school calendar. This has now been extended to make the same learning & community links with our Partnership School.
A child is far more likely to succeed where staff and parents work in harmony. We therefore aim to develop a close co-operation between home and school. Staff at school are particularly hardworking and enthusiastic. We wish our relationship with parents to be a joint partnership and hope that you will support and reinforce the teaching that your child is receiving at school by attending parents meetings, hearing your child read regularly and by discussing your child’s work with them so that by working together your child’s potential can be realised. Many pupils come from the villages of St Mellion & St Dominick respectively and other outlying hamlets such as Pillaton & Harrowbarrow. However, some parents living in the Callington & Saltash areas choose to send their children to our Federation.
