Remembrance Service –St Dominic School 2019

Welcome and Introduction

At 11am on 11th November 1918 the guns in Europe fell silent after more than four years of war. In November the Germans called for an armistice (a ceasefire) and they accepted the terms of surrender. The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month became the day when we remember those who died.

Poem - Children

In Flanders Field by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

Wreath or Poppy Laying

Flowers are traditionally laid on the graves or the memorials of the dead. We will now show that we remember by being still and by laying our poppies at the memorial here.

The Ode

Adult:             They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

Child:              At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Everyone:        We will remember them.

Last Post

Two Minutes Silence

Reveille

Adult :                        Lest we forget

Everyone:        Lest we forget

National Anthem

God save our gracious Queen

Long live our noble Queen!

God save the Queen!

Send her victorious,

Blessed and glorious,

Long to reign over us,

God save the Queen.

Prayers – led by children

Father God.

We know that you want peace for all your people. Make us believe this and make all people believe in your word. May your truth and honesty be taken by your Holy Spirit across the world. We ask this for sake of jesus your son.

Amen

Dear Father God.

We pray to you for the peace of the world. We ask you to make all the leaders of the countries of the world wise so that all your people can live together whatever their race, colour or religion. We ask you to give peace to every man, women and child in every corner of the world.

Through Jesus Christ our lord.

Amen

Hymn:

Peace Perfect Peace

Blessing and Dismissal

Peace, perfect peace, is the gift of Christ our Lord,

Peace, perfect peace, is the gift of Christ our Lord.

Thus, says the Lord, will the world know my friends,

Peace, perfect peace, is the gift of Christ our Lord.

Make me a channel of your peace

Where there is hatred let me bring your love

Where there is injury, your pardon Lord

And where there's doubt, true faith in you

Make me a channel of your peace

Where there's despair in life let me bring hope

Where there is darkness, only light

And where there's sadness ever joy

Oh, master grant that I may never seek

So much to be consoled as to console

To be understood as to understand

To be loved as to love with all my soul

Make me a channel of your peace

It isn't pardoning that we are pardoned

In giving to all men let we receive

And in dying that we're born to turn around

Oh, master grant that I may never seek

So much to be consoled as to console

To be understood as to understand

To be loved as to love with all my soul

Make me a channel of your peace

Where there's despair in life let me bring hope

Where there is darkness, only light

And where there's sadness ever joy

The Reading is from Matthew Chapter 12 verses 1-12

Jesus saw the crowds and went up a hill, where he sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them:

Blessed are those who know they are spiritually poor;

the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!

Blessed are those who mourn;

    God will comfort them!

Blessed are those who are humble;

    they will receive what God has promised!

Blessed are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires;

    God will satisfy them fully!

Blessed are those who are merciful to others;

    God will be merciful to them!

Blessed are the pure in heart;

    they will see God!

Blessed are those who work for peace;

    God will call them his children!

Blessed are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires;

    the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!

Blessed are those who tell llies about you and attack you because of me,

Rejoice and be glad because you will be favoured by God.
